To get from Lima airport to Miraflores there are several options, some better than others. This is the most touristic neighborhood of the Peruvian capital and where most visitors stay, so I used it as a reference and starting point for a trip to Lima.
Distance Lima airport to Miraflores
From the airport to Miraflores there are approximately 18 kilometers away. To get there you have to take the highway bordering the coast and passing through the constitutional province El Callao, which is where the Jorge Chávez international airport is located.
Take an official taxi
To get to Miraflores from the airport, there are several options. The classic way to get around is by taking a taxi. None of the “official taxis” will charge less than 40 soles or even 60 soles to Miraflores.
Unlike Chile, in Peru there are not very many rules as to who can or can not be a taxi driver. According to a Peruvian I’ve met, anyone who uses a TAXI sign can work as such. When getting on there is no meter (or is hidden, but in no taxi I have seen or have used it). When you get in the car, you start negotiating the final amount with the taxi driver.
Generally, they know that you are a foreigner and take advantage, as happens with taxi drivers on many destinations.
Another option is to take a minivan that leaves from the hotel that is outside the airport.
But the best options, in my opinion, are these two:
Take an Uber
Uber is not legal in Peru, but neither is it illegal. However, taxi drivers do not attack you or you will be in trouble. With the app you know in advance how much you will leave the Lima airport to Miraflores and vice versa. On my return trip from Miraflores to the airport, the application marked me 37 soles, but finally, I was charged 24.34 soles.
Not only is it a good option to get around from the airport to Miraflores, but also to get around the city.
To give you an idea, from Avenida Larco 1140, Miraflores, to Playa Mayor in the center of Lima, I paid 17 soles. A taxi driver took me from the same address to Barranco and charged me 20 soles. You see the difference? While the center is about 18 kilometers from Miraflores, Barranco is only 2.5 kilometers away.
The problem is that you need mobile data WI FI to ask for an Uber. And unfortunately, there have been cases of rapes and robberies in Uber vehicles – as well as in Chile. The other option that works very well in Lima is the Beat app.
Take the Airport Express Lima
In this second trip to Lima I did not use the Airport Express Lima, but I did use it in 2016. It is the option that I like the most, especially when I travel alone. It has free WI FI, the buses are big and comfortable, it has no luggage limits and the service is excellent.
Tickets can be purchased on their website, on the same bus or at the airport. They cost 8 dollars one way and 15 round trip. They leave every hour.
You can go from the airport to Miraflores, Surco, Barranco, and San Isidro.
Against: it works from 6 a.m. / 7 a.m. until midnight or 1 a.m. (depends if you are going to or from the airport).
