Free European Tours

Check all these Free European Tours and discover Europe like a local.

How do free walking tours work?

Your free tour generally begins with the guide introducing him or herself, and asking tourist to say from which country are they visiting. The tour will last about 2-3 hours, going around and having the guide telling great stories of the city you are visiting. Often, the tour will stop at a cafe, bar or restaurant to grab a snack, a drink or use the facilities.

At the end, you are expected to tip the guide.

So, are free walking tours really free?

Yes and no. Let me elaborate.
The tour is free because you are not paying in advance. But, assuming you feel that the tour was great, you should leave a tip.
I personally think these tours are usually pretty darned good. In my experience, I had better free tours than paid ones, in general. I have the feeling that they put more effort to make the tour memorable since they know the amount of money they will get at the end depend on the quality of the experience.
Keep in mind that guides have to pay a fee “per head” to their company.

How much should I tip?

The tip you leave should depend on the economic conditions of the country you are visiting, but usually they are in the 5-20 euro range.

It is your own responsability to check the meeting point, schedule and if the tour is running the date you want.
