Get inspired to visit Chile
Every time I travel and I say I’m from Chile, people just stare at me, totally blank. When I say that it is in South America and they are still confused, I would say “is that very thin and long country between the Pacific ocean and Argentina”. “Ahhh, Argentina! Then you dance samba, right?” Apart from the fact that a lot of people confuse Brazil with all South American countries, I have to recognize that Chile may not be as popular as its neighbouring countries like Peru and its world famous food, or Argentina and the tango.
We are just 17 million inhabitants and if someone know anything about Chile, is mostly because of: earthquakes, Arsenal footballer player Alexis Sánchez, our growing economy or our landscapes. Because even though we are not popular, I’ve met a handful of people who have been in Chile and they were impressed by our beautiful natural landscapes. If you never heard about this country located at the end of the world, here I show you 8 amazing landscapes that will convince you to come and visit.
Atacama
The world’s driest desert , covers a piece of 1,000-kilometers land (600 miles) on the Pacific coast, west of the Andes.
Valle del Elqui
Valle de Elqui it’s a valley located in the Elqui Province in the Coquimbo Region. Its main town is Vicuña, where the poet Gabriela Mistral, winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1945, was born.
Valparaiso
Valparaiso is known as the San Francisco of South America by its hills and steep streets. Due to its nineteenth century architecture, its historic center was declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco in 2003.
Pichilemu
In Libertador General Bernardo O’Higgins Region (VI region), it’s located a town called Pichilemu, famous for Punta de Lobos, a world-known beach for surfers.
Araucania
Araucania, land of the mapuche, the indigenous people of Chile, stands out in international tourism because of its volcanoes, ancient forests , ski resorts, among others natural beauties.
Valdivia
This beautiful city was founded in 1552 by the Spanish conqueror Pedro de Valdivia and is the fourth oldest city in the country after Concepción, Santiago and La Serena. I remember when I went to Valdivia: I fell in love for all the blue lakes and old big houses built by German immigrants.
Patagonia
Patagonia is a geographical region located in the southernmost part of America, shared by Chile and Argentina. Its crystal clear rivers and breathtaking landscapes make it one of the most popular destinations in South America.
Torres del Paine
The Torres del Paine National Park, created in 1959, is part of Patagonia and the National System of Protected Areas of the State of Chile. Weather conditions in the park vary widely due to the complex topography.
